OK, so I have a made my first Blogger header image for use with "new" Blogger.
It's the image from "I love Gossip" free blogger design, but it's all by its lonesome.

Please note that this header looks good for a Blog with a white background. Otherwise it might be too weird.
From your Dashboard, click on Template and then Page Elements.
From within this page, "Edit" the header.
Ignore the "Blog Title" and "Blog Description" bits (because this header image is going to take the place of that.
Hit the "Browse" button and select the header image file that you downloaded. Once you have found the file and clicked "ok", save the changes.

It will take you back to the "Page Elements" bit, and a yellow notice will say that the changes have been made.

Incase text is still showing up (over the image), click on "Edit" the header again. Under "Placement" click on "Instead of title and description" and save changes.

....BUT... if you preview your blog, you'll see weird lines around the header:
When you've clicked on "edit HTML", a page full of code will open.
You have to scroll down this code until you find the "Header" bit. There are two lines of text that need removing (for the weird lines around the image to go away!).

So you have to click on the "edit HTML" subheader.

the lines start with border:1px. Delete both of these lines, as seen above.

Incase you have been living underground, these designs are for "classic" Blogger, but I guess I feel kind of bad that I am giving a cold shoulder to those of you who use "new" or "widget" blogger. Personally I do tend to like extras/content being minimal and graphics complementing the writing/personality, which often does not happen in new Blogger!
Widget heavy blogs give me a boredom induced headache!! I mean, how many people do you think REALLY want to read your blog in another language?
And RSS feeds!
Blah! Why someone would want to read a blog entry with no layout graphics is beyond me!

(sure it may taste good, but half the pleasure is in the visuals. And besides, see that bit of ribbon, you might choke on it if you're eating in the dark! Beware!)
Anyhow RSS feeds and ribbon induced deaths aside, I think I'm going to start making some header images that you can use in your blog if you use new blogger.
